I Took My Heart to San Francisco

My mom & I took Jett to San Francisco & we had the most wonderful time!

I'm going to bore you with the details because it was just such an amazing trip.

We drove down early in the morning & went to the Golden Gate Bridge for a picnic. It was freezing! We managed to take a few pictures outside & then enjoyed our picnic from a wonderful parking space in the car.

We weren't able to check into our hotel until 3pm, although we tried, so we took Jett to a really old fashioned playground at Lincoln Park. Thank goodness the slides were slow because they were amazingly, frighteningly tall! Jett loved it.

When we checked into the hotel we got a lovely Junior Suite ~ thanks Grandpa! We were on the fourth floor & there was a brewery across the street with a sculpture of a man scaling the wall. There was also a taxi stand across the street below so Jett had a great time counting all the taxis. He really loves hotel rooms which makes traveling with him just that much easier.

That evening we went to Fisherman's Wharf & took Jett to the Aquarium. It was beautiful & we saw lots of sharks. I think the slow moving walkway through the displays may well have been his favorite part, though.

Then we went to dinner at the Crab House on the Wharf. It had a lovely view & the dinner was great. The new coloring supplies we purchased at the Aquarium were a big hit while we ate. The server came over to ask how we were doing & Jett asked where his Macaroni & Cheese was. Mom & I explained to him that you had to wait for your dinner at a restaurant. She was an absolute doll & brought his dinner out right away.

Next we went to see the Sea Lions. He didn't love them but he wasn't too scared. Finally, we rode the Carousel & then walked back to the hotel for the night.

The next morning we went to the Ferry Building to the Farmer's Market. We got some amazing berries. I think Jett ate 20 strawberries while we were still shopping.

Later that morning we went to the Exploratorium. We had a great time & although much of the activities were a little advanced for Jett, he absolutely loved being able to touch every lever, turn every knob & bang on everything there was to bang on. His favorite part was a suspicion obstacle course where you had to walk under a ladder & various other "bad luck" things. He didn't really understand the concept but he got to take a sledge hammer & shatter a mirror. He sure understood that!

After the Exploratorium we went to Chrissy Fields to have a picnic. It wasn't as cold as the bridge but it was chilly.

After a failed attempt at a nap at the hotel, my Mom went to stand in line to ride a Cable Car. She called us after about 45 minutes & told us to head down to wait with her because then it was only about a 20 minute wait ~ a three year old can only stand in line so long. I think the Cable Car ride may have been Jett's favorite. Although he was definitely more into the gears & the operator than the amazing views.

We hopped off at Union Square right by the Disney Store, which was going out of business. We spent a happy hour letting Jett wander all through the store & look at all of the toys. He got two little trucks & we got Payton a Darby Doll.

We took a cab back to the Wharf & had dinner at Bubba Gumps. I told Mike I felt cheap & dirty after eating there, as I'm not usually one for touristy restaurants :) However, it was my idea to take Jett there & it was a good place for kids. There was a very talented juggler performing by the carousel & we all really enjoyed the show. We donated $3 to his hat & let Jett give it to him. He still talks about that.

Back to the hotel & up the next morning & ready to leave. We stopped at Trader Joe's just down the street before we left town. Jett talked & sang the entire ride home just so he wouldn't fall asleep.

Thanks, Mom. The trip was amazing & we'll remember it always!

Trips to Marysville

Although Brett brings Payton up here as much as he can, there are some weekends that Jett & I go to Marysville to spend the day with them.

We drive down there early in the morning & take the kids to Funderland & Fairy Tale Town in Sacramento.

We love those days!

Jett's First Fish!

We took Jett fishing on Sunday morning & he caught his first fish.

He held it & kissed it but when we started to release it he yelped, "Don't throw it back, I'm hungry!"

It was obviously quite small, so we did throw it back, but at least we know that he gets the fishing idea.

Update: The top photo has been published in the Redding Record Searchlight twice in the last two weeks!

Fishing with Daddy

Last weekend we took Jett fishing. Although he's not quite ready for a hook yet, he really seemed to enjoy it. Mommy & Daddy actually had hooks, but we still didn't catch anything.

My Grandma told me a story a few days ago about my Grandpa taking my Dad & his brother Steve fishing when my Dad was 5 or 6. They were standing on the side of the water & my father said "Daddy, I can't find my hook." They soon came to realize it was stuck in his ear.

My Grandma wasn't sure if my Dad would remember that or not because he was so young, but she sure did. The story also further proves that Jett is not yet ready for a hook.

Jett & Payton

Playing Kickball

For the last month, Jett has been playing Kickball on Saturday mornings through the Parks & Recreation program. It was a lot of fun but by the fourth Saturday the 3 & 4 year olds were over it. They did really well on the third Saturday, though.

In two weeks we begin T-Ball for a month. We plan on enrolling Jett in every sport & letting him choose which he likes. He was only lukewarm about Kickball but that's ok because there's no real future in that particular sport anyway.

Great Kids with Grandma Great

Payton's Birthday

We all went to Marysville for Payton's 2nd Birthday.

My parents got her a new wagon & a fantastic new Jungle Gym for the backyard.

We took turns pushing the kids on the swings but a couple of times when I was sitting & no one was pushing her Payton would squeal "Lisa!"

Since she was calling me Lisa, Jett started calling me Lisa. I told them that's "Aunt Lisa" to you & that's "Mommy" to you. But quite honestly that girl could get me to do anything she wants just by saying my name ~ she melts my heart so push her I did.

Easter with Grandma Great

My Grandma visited from Kansas for two weeks in March. It was absolutely wonderful to have her here with us & we can't wait for her to come back.

Easter was so much fun this year with Jett & Payton ~ they both understood the hunting for Easter Eggs. They just keep becoming more & more fun!
